Happy with 2011 and Happy for 2012 to be here

Arriving back from Paris has been a bit of a whirlwind.  With all the holiday travel and preparing for the launch of the we.are.america2012 website tonight, I will admit that I have been a bit of a blog slacker; but, if there is one thing I’ve learned this year,it is that. . .

things don’t always go as planned, and that’s part of the fun.

Reading that sentence a year and a half ago probably would have made me cringe.  At that time, I knew that I was going to quit my job, and I knew that I was going to spend 2011 traveling; but my way of preparing involved excel spreadsheets, lots of notes from travel guides, and a very detailed calendar of where I thought I would go and when.

Thank goodness things got too busy, and I wasn’t ever able to set those plans into stone.

Ready to Leave and Ready to be Home.

Since I’m changing places, it’s nearly the end of the year, and i have a new project (hopefully) launching on 1January, I think it is safe to say that there will be quite a few blogs from me over the coming weeks.

I have lots to share about this past year, but rather than spouting it all out at once, I’ll start with the matter at hand: my bags are packed; I’m spending the day doing last minute things; and in 24 hours I will be on my way home.

Leaving a place is usually hard for me. Leaving the people I’ve met there is typically even more difficult, but this time it’s different. There are lots of things telling me it’s time. For example, I’ve basically run out of all toiletries this week, and for the first time pretty much ever, my bags are actually packed more than eight hours before my flight. So, though I will be a little teary leaving France behind for now, the universe has done nothing but reassure that I’ve made the right decision. It is time for me to go.

Today is World AIDS Day, and it’s got me thinking about different stories, and different people, and why I blog, and why I think this new project, we.are.america(2012), is so important. Seemingly all unrelated, even I thought so, until I read the starting line of my sister’s blog about World AIDS Day: “Today’s post is personal.”

World AIDS Day is a lot of things. For some it is a day of remembrance. For many it is a day of action. For others it is a day of service. It should be something, it should personal, for all of us.
